GRE MOCK TESTS: The practice matches before the final match.
by Chetan Sakpal (Thane - Quant) - Friday, 23 July 2010, 11:53 AM

‘Practice tests’ or ‘Mock tests’ as we may call it, are one of the most important part of a GRE exam preparation, in fact it’s the most important part of most of the other examinations too, but it highly depends on the quality of the tests available. Being an engineer, I’ll give only engineering examples; of course they might be applicable for others.

Myths & Facts About Toefl Speaking
by Bina Soni (Thane, Dombivli - Verbal) - Saturday, 17 July 2010, 01:19 PM
"Speaking" on TOEFL is the third section & it requires a lot of
sponteinity, presence of mind & mental agility to deliver the required
speech with ease, correctness & conciseness. All this calls for a
focussed & planned practice on part of the student under the proper
guidance of the trainer. Here are a few myths & facts about spesking
on toefl.

1.MYTH: the student is required to speak accented English.

1.FACT: absolutely not.In fact the student is advised not to put up
any fake accent `coz imitating the natives will surely land you in
trouble as we are not habituated to American accent.Stick to proper &
correct pronunciation of words.

2.MYTH:Speaking is graded only on how fast you speak that is your flow
& fluency only & nothing else.

2.FACT:Students again have a misconception here.Speaking is graded on
a scale of 4 that is your content, organisation ,fluency & grammatical
correctness. What you speak, how you organise your points, the pace of
your speech& grammatically correct English ,everything matters not
just fluency.

3.MYTH: No need of prior practice as the topics you prepare are not
sure to come in the exam.

3. FACT: Prior practice is a must.True the topics you prepare are not
sure to come in the exam yet the efforts you put in will certainly pay
off. "PRACTICE MAKES THE MAN PERFECT" is absolutely applicable
here. All the points that you generate during practice will condition
your brain & puts you in a better frame of mind so much so that you
feel fully armed to attack any given toipc.

So guys come out of the myths & embrace the facts if you aspire to
come out with flying colours in TOEFL.

SELF CONFIDENCE
by Kavita Prakash {Vashi- verbal} - Monday, 12 July 2010, 07:04 PM

“TOO MANY PEOPLE OVERVALUE WHAT THEY ARE NOT AND UNDERVALUE WHAT THEY ARE”

Self confidence is the difference between feeling unstoppable and feeling scared out of your wits. Your perception of yourself has an enormous impact on how others perceive you. Although clothes don’t make the man, they certainly affect the way he feels about himself. No one is more conscious of your physical appearance than you are. When you don’t look good, it changes the way you carry yourself and interact with other people. Use this to your advantage by taking care of your personal appearance. This doesn’t mean you need to spend a lot on clothes. One great rule to follow is “spend twice as much, buy half as much”. Rather than buying a bunch of cheap clothes, buy half as many select, high quality items. Buying less also helps reduce the clutter in your closet.

When we think negatively about ourselves, we often project that feeling on to others in the form of insults and gossip. To break this cycle of negativity, get in the habit of praising other people. By looking for the best in others, you indirectly bring out the best in yourself. I am sure that you have heard the expression, give in order to receive, well, start complimenting people every day and watch how many compliments you'll start receiving in return.

Walk with good posture, as in walking tall, that will also boost your self-confidence and self-esteem. This by the way has been scientifically proven.

If you are shy of doing something, then that won't build your self-confidence until you can face it. If you are shy of public speaking, the only way to build yourself up about public speaking is by doing it.

What we need are more people who specialize in the impossible.
